Turntable help
I've decided to go back to the future and dig out the old vinyl and also start collecting ..

I'm going to buy a single turntable , amo and speakers, budget 500 ish ..:

Any help appreciated in what I should be looking at ..I won't be starting a DJ circuit anytime soon, just belting out a few old and new tunes at home

Re: Turntable help
Oh, it sounds obvious but make sure the amp has phono inputs and earth. And a mic jack input is handy as you can plug in your laptop or phone.

With that sort of budget, I'd pop down Richer Sounds, ask their advice too but get something along the lines of a Project Essential deck, maybe a Cambridge Audio Topaz amp and a pair of Q Acoustics 2010i speakers. leaving you about £100 for speaker stands and cables etc.

Would be a very decent starting point.

Re: Turntable help
If you can't afford a really expensive amp get a cheap mixer as a pre amp. That's what I do though my amp is half decent.

The difference is huge.

NAD / Mission: good as any mate

Just enjoy the music. People forget that sometimes.

I already had an old NAD amp and mission speakers knocking around so used them as they still work.

Re: Turntable help
If you get the Rega 'copy', Flexon Vinylplay, you can use it on its own with powered speakers to play your vinyl (or you can run it through the usual amp / speakers set up). The Vinylplay costs about £300 or so, BUT you can also record your vinyl straight into a pc / laptop with it!

I have one for just that. The rest of my kit is Marantz / Q Audio and is well out of your budget spec, but if you up it to around £800 you can get a reasonable set up (as long as you aren't a hifi 'snob').

Re: Turntable help
I got a Rega RP1 turntable last year, not outrageously expensive and very good.
